Residents of different villages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district have protested against insufficient health facilities, according to a Dawn news report.
Locals said the 41 basic health units in their villages neither have lady doctors nor labour rooms. Women patients and expecting mothers are facing difficulties due to these issues.
Residents of Shawar village said a single doctor in their basic health unit has to cover for a population of 10,000. The tehsil hospital is 15 kilometres away. In Gwalerai village, matters are worse. There a population of 40,000 residents is covered by a single health unit. Locals said poor villagers cannot afford to travel to other towns or private clinics.
A health department official said the department has requested the government to set up labour rooms in 10 basic health units.
