Union council Sheikhan, located six kilometres from Peshawar Saddar, lacks basic facilities for its 30,000 residents, according to a Jang news report.
The residents of the union council, which includes three villages, do not have access to clean drinking water, girls’ high school, gas, electricity and sports ground. According to residents, a gas pipeline was installed 10 years ago but the utility was never supplied.
An industrial zone near the union council has polluted the drinking water sources of the area. A district councillor said the residents were condemned to live in the stone age.
